PUBLIC CLASSES in Kyoto and Tokyo

Most public yoga classes these days are fast-paced and focus on fitness and aesthetics. Although these classes are beneficial and supportive for physical health and wellbeing, fast-paced classes often perpetuate busy lives and busy minds.

The hard truth is that Yoga is more than asana and in order for us to experience the full promise of Yoga, we must simplify and slow-down our practice.

In this 2 hour public class, we will explore a complete Tantric Hatha Yoga class, with an emphasis on breath and subtle practices. You can expect to practice dynamic movements, simple breath patterns, static asanas and long holds. The practice will not be physically complex, but it may challenge you in unexpected ways. You’ll have a chance to experience how subtle yoga can move you towards deeper stillness and a quiet, peaceful state of mind.

Each public class will be taught in English with a Japanese teacher translating the whole class.

Cost - Single Public Class
5000 YEN

KYOTO WEEKEND WORKSHOP - March 22 & 23.

Yoga & The Koshas –
Experiencing Yoga as an Energetic Practice.

Deep within each and every one of us there is light. This light, or pure awareness, is covered by layers of energy and matter of varying densities. These layers are called the Koshas. The 5 Koshas are the

-       Physical layer
-       Energy layer
-       Mental layer
-       Wisdom layer
-       Bliss layer

The Koshas are not separate from one another. They exist on a continuum and influence each other in various ways. Yoga gives us the tools to understand each Kosha and gain mastery over all of them so we can access the light of pure awareness within us and live in harmony with ourselves, with others and with nature.

In this two-day workshop we will study the ancient map of the 5 Koshas and explore how to purify and unify them within ourselves. Our practices together will be slow and spacious and will include all elements of a complete Hatha Yoga practice including asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation. The practices will help you to embody the theory we discuss so you can have your own direct-experience of what you learn and perhaps even experience your Self beyond the 5 Koshas.

The workshop will include:

-       Breath-guided complete Hatha Yoga practices with an emphasis on subtle yoga and meditation
-       an overview of the map of the 5 Koshas
-       using the map of the 5 Koshas as a framework for understanding and experiencing the interconnection of body, mind, breath, energy and spirit
-       lectures and discussion to further explore the intersection between the practice of Yoga and the 5 Koshas
-       discussion about how a complete practice creates harmony between the 5 Koshas
-       Meditation and integration practices

This workshop will not only grant you access to deeper experiences in your Yoga practice, but will expand your self-awareness and bring more meaning to your life.

TOKYO WEEKEND WORKSHOP - March 29 & 30.

Yoga & The Mind – Your Mind is a Powerful Instrument.

The Yoga tradition offers us the idea that there are only two states of mind – present or distracted. For many of us our mind is often distracted, we find it difficult to concentrate and we are quick to re-act. Because of these reasons, the mind often gets a bad reputation. But Yoga says the mind is an incredible instrument that can be used to experience the light of pure awareness. If we understand how the different inner aspects of the mind work, how they influence each other, and how to leverage the totality of the mind's potential then we can use its power as a tool for transformation and spiritual evolution.

In this two-day workshop we will explore Yoga and the Mind through embodied prana-based Hatha Yoga practices, lecture and discussion. We will study an ancient map of the mind that explains the four inner instruments (The Antahkaranas) of the mind and how Yoga and meditation can help us to be less reactive, more aware, less distracted and more connected to our life’s purpose.

The workshop will include:

-       Breath-guided complete Hatha Yoga practices with an emphasis on subtle yoga and meditation
-       an overview of the map of the Antahkaranas (the 4 Inner instruments of the mind)
-       using the map of the Antahkaranas as a framework for understanding how the mind works and how to access the higher mind and pure awareness
-       lectures and discussion to further explore the intersection between the practice of Yoga and the Mind
-       discussion about how a complete practice can support our own psychology
-       Meditation and integration practices

This workshop will support you in gaining more insight into the inner workings of your own mind, how your conditioning colours your experience in the world, and how you can use Yoga and meditation as a means to access your mind's inner radiance and connect to your soul.
