Kavi - An Exploration of the Whispered Wisdom of YOGA.

Friday Feb 7 - Sunday Feb 9, 2025.

Folde Yoga School, Nipaluna, Lutruwita.

If you’ve been curious about Tantric Hatha Yoga and the power of subtle practice, this workshop is for you.

There are many different ways to practice yoga. No way is right or wrong, better or worse however I have come to realise a hard truth about contemporary Yoga which is that contemporary yoga has placed trend above tradition and through this, the mystery of Kavi, the force of energetic transference and whispered wisdom of the Tradition has been diluted.

What is the outcome of this?

If we are practicing Yoga as HATHA, purely for the physical benefits, we are at risk of missing out on experiencing the totality of who we are and remembering our inner most self-essence. Don’t get me wrong, I love a groovy vinyasa practice and sometimes it’s exactly what I need to get out of my head and into my body. But both Yoga philosophy and modern science confirm that the nature of reality is vibratory. Life is energy on a spectrum. Aka, we are more than our physical body. Our body is our vehicle, our temple and should absolutely be worshiped and cared for skilfully and respectfully, but we are more than the body and Yoga is more than āsana.

So take a slow breath, and take a few moments to consider this…

The practice of Yoga has the capacity to bring you home to your TRUE Self.

I know, it’s a big statement. To come home to your Self.

What is this true Self? Beyond all of the labels we put on ourself and identifications we cling to, we are PURE, POWERFUL, LUMINOUS, TRANSCENDENT and ETERNAL beings. This is our essence, and it lies deep within the heart of each and every one of us. This inner most divine spark of who we are is never dulled, dimmed, tarnished or lost. It is infinite, ever-present and always whispering divine guidance to us.

Knowing the deepest part of who we are comes with many challenges. Our mind finds it difficult to intellectualise this aspect of us because it exists beyond the mind. So we cling to and falsely identify with our ever-changing circumstances; our thoughts, moods, emotions, injuries, heartbreaks, loses, etc. We suffer! Life is beautiful but also hard and through our own personal and global hardships we forget the part of us that is always at peace. We lose touch with the whispered wisdom of our Spirit because the obstacles we face day to day create so much noise within our bodies and minds that it is difficult to remember the quietest most peaceful part of who we are.

Through false-identification with all of the things that we are NOT we lose sight of that which we truly are.

So where does Yoga come in?

Yoga is both a process (a practice) and a state (of quietude). As a practice, yoga must include two ingredients; abhyasa (self-effort), and vairagyam, the experience of trustful surrender (non-doing). Through the combination of our own self effort (action) and our ability to trust in the bigger picture of life, we can re-learn to reside within our essential self free from all suffering and sorrow.

Tantric Hatha Yoga is one system of practice with a specific set of techniques that happens to be perfectly calibrated and aligned to this worldview. It gives us practical tools to apply our self-effort through and philosophies that support us in trusting in the bigger pircture. Through our self-effort, we can thin out the inner obstacles (Kleshas) that keep us stuck in our mis-identifications and personalised dramas, we can manage our prana (life-force) skilfully so we can live with purpose, and we can calm and quieten the mind so that we can not only remember the luminous spark of Divinity within us, but LIVE FROM IT.

The gift of Tantric Hatha Yoga is that it is both practical and mystical. It provides us with a clear map that when followed with discernment and contemplation, offers us this homecoming experience. Tantric Hatha Yoga practices range from simple and subtle to active and exaggerated, but even the most simple and subtle techniques are powerful and potent beyond words and can move you in positive directions both in your life, and within your spiritual evolution.

But remember, the experience of sustainable inner peace and purposeful living does not come from mastering handstands or chaturangas. We experience the promise of Yoga by mastering our own mind and entering the sacred space within the cave of the heart.

I have personally practiced and continue to practice many different styles of Yoga under different teachers from different lineages. There have been many shifts in my practice over the years but through my own exploration of Yoga I have found that for me personally, the practices that bring me back to my innate state of inner peace, quietude and contentment are the practices that have come directly through parampara, teacher to student and my own experiences THROUGH practice of Kavi.

We will be exploring all of this and more in Nipaluna, Lutruwita.
